As of June 2025, the CRM has a new Center Director, Mustafa Ahmed, MD. Dr. Ahmed is a cardiologist, the Vice Chair of Research for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Heart Failure Section Chief, and Medical Director for the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Ahmed completed a stem cell fellowship with the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network under Dr. Carl Pepine at the University of Florida. Since that time, he has led multiple clinical trials utilizing regenerative medicine and cell therapies for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and has participated in leadership roles with the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). He is currently the PI of multiple gene and cell therapy trials at UF.
